History
While Presbyterians were among the first settlers of "Scrantonia," the current building in the Hill Section of Scranton was built in 1904 when First Presbyterian Church moved out of downtown Scranton. On Pentecost Sunday, 1981, Covenant Presbyterian Church was formed. Following in the footsteps of our predecessors who had previously merged for the sake of our church's mission, the combined congregations of the former Green Ridge and Westminster Presbyterian Churches, in unison, covenanted "to work together as disciples of Jesus Christ." We also promised "to maintain this church by our attendance at its services, our support of its work, our gifts, our efforts and our prayers, and to seek in its fellowship to glorify the name and further the cause of our Lord Jesus Christ."
