How to Join

Visitors Orientation
In today's society, the idea of "joining" an organization is not as current as it once was. As a consequence we find that some people wish to worship with us for an extended period of time before making what they perceive as a more binding commitment to "membership." We have therefore, designed a brief "visitors orientation" process to help such individuals learn something about our church, its worship, educational and outreach ministries, in order to make your time among us more meaningful. These "orientation" sessions are held from time to time following morning worship on Sunday and will be announced in the worship bulletin. You may also speak with the pastor to express an interest in this option.

Membership

Covenant Church welcomes anyone into our fellowship of faith who find their hope for life in both this world and the next, in the person and teachings of Jesus Christ.

We receive new members by what is called "transfer" from another Presbyterian church or by "affirmation of faith." Since this is hopefully a very personal matter, our process involves an opportunity to meet the leaders of our congregation, (Elders) at what is called a Session meeting to share with them something of your story of life and faith and hear something of theirs. Afterwards, you will be introduced to the congregation at a Sunday worship service.

Inquirer's Class
For those joining by means of affirmation of faith we provide a series of classes (usually three). These are most often held on Sundays following morning worship over a light lunch. This gives prospective members an opportunity to explore both questions of faith as well as some more practical aspects of congregational life at Covenant Church. Attendance at these classes does not commit you to join the congregation but may help you make a more informed decision about this decision.

Affiliate Membership
Since we are located in a University community, we also offer the option for Presbyterians who are studying in the city to become "affiliate" members of our church without withdrawing your membership from your home congregation.
