Letter from the Chairman
Dear Friends in Christ,
Twenty-five years ago members of the Green Ridge and Westminster churches entered a covenant to blend their congregations and heritage into a single witness for Christ in downtown Scranton and throughout the world. Since that time many others have entered this covenant as well. During it all our 100-year-old building, with alterations for the addition of the elevator and office complex and refurbishment of the kitchen and Covenant room, has served us well.
More recent evaluations of our stained glass, aging heating system, front entrance, and manse repair needs have led us to conduct a complete master planning process for all our facilities. This has produced a "three phase" plan for renovation and maintenance. We feel this plan, as it is implemented, will enable us to fulfill our ministry commitments and avoid operating in a crisis mode over the next several years.
The first phase of this plan, which will cost $500,000, includes a number of urgent repairs to the facilities. We will also establish a modest building endowment for future building maintenance needs. And, because ministry to others is a primary commitment of our church, we will also make a contribution toward the Camp Lackawanna endowment fund.
Your pledge to this extremely important effort will allow us to ensure that our magnificent church will celebrate its 200th birthday in a manner that would please both God and our Church's founders.
Lastly, I feel confident that with this campaign we will not only begin to restore buildings but also our individual and congregational covenants with God for ongoing ministry in downtown Scranton and throughout the world.
God Bless our Church, Mark Lynn Campaign Chair
